Digital Resources Librarian

The Law Library is seeking a Digital Resources Librarian with up-to-date skills in library information technologies to assist the Law Library in the planning and delivery of library services to Law school students, faculty, and staff with a strong commitment to customer service. The person in this position will oversee the ERM lifecycle and assist with resolving issues related to electronic resources acquisitions and licensing; electronic access issues; and the implementation, data migration, and ongoing management of electronic resources systems in our ILS.  The Electronic Resources Librarian will play a critical role in the development, implementation and management of electronic resources.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Works with the University Library to ensure optimal operation of the shared integrated library system and open source initiatives; supervises, trains and evaluates one support staff member responsible for systems-related work.
  • Serves as liaison to library staff, patrons, and the ILS vendor regarding system issues.
  • Provides technical expertise and support to colleagues and serves as liaison between the Public and Technical Services Departments.
  • Ensures the accurate recording and maintenance of all administrative data for the Library’s electronic resource subscriptions.
  • Actively collaborates with the Head of TS on current and future electronic resources collection strategies. Providing usage statistics to assist with collection development decision making.
  • Actively involved in improving the user experience of electronic resources with University Librarians and Law Library Research Librarians.
  • Investigates emerging technologies to improve access and delivery of digital resources and services.
  • Coordinates and performs access-related problem resolution, responding to user and staff reports, and working with library and vendor staff to resolve the issues identified.
  • Works closely with the Director and the Head of TS to provide input on budget, fund management, and expenditure projections;
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of current issues, standards, and technologies related to acquiring, licensing and managing scholarly electronic resources.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure and data management functions of integrated library systems as they relate to an electronic resources management system.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, and experience and comfort with professional presentations.
  • Ability to work collegially and collaboratively with colleagues, as well as with vendors and publishers.
  • Excellent analytical, time management, organizational, and creative problem-solving skills.

Requirements include:

  • Master’s degree in library and/or information science from an ALA-accredited institution or other relevant advanced degree.
  • 3 or more years of experience in an academic library, preferably in a law library.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting the management and/or acquisition of electronic resources in an academic or research library.
  • Demonstrated experience managing and troubleshooting problems with electronic resource access.
  • Experience implementing and using an Electronic Resource Management System.
  • Knowledge of trends and issues with e-resources and a commitment to keeping current with changes, including awareness of issues of vendors, packages, aggregators, platforms, licensing, pricing models, and financial and statistical management needs.
  • Demonstrated initiative, flexibility, and ability to work creatively and effectively both independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to use technology in creative ways to address challenges.

Desired:

Strong project management skills; strong interest in emerging technologies and general trends in librarianship and higher education.
