The Law Library is now welcoming applications for the Digital and Scholarly Resources Librarian. This newly created position oversees the creation of the Law School’s Digital Repository.

Responsibilities:

The Digital and Scholarly Resources Librarian reports to the Director of the Law Library, and is primarily responsible for the creation and maintenance of [the] institutional repositories and particularly managing and enhancing the digital presence of the Law Review. The librarian coordinates and assists the work of the student editors of the Law Review with regard to digital and print publications and subscription billing, while ensuring continuity and uniformity from year-to-year. The librarian educates and trains members of the Law Review on new and developing technology (such as Perma.cc) and publication practices for academic legal publishing and assisting in the implementation of new technology in the workflows of the Law Review. Additionally, the position coordinates the workflow and life cycle of the law school’s scholarly digital-first resources and works with Law School administrative staff, such as the Director of Communications, to highlight and enhance the law school’s scholarly profile. The librarian is the primary administrator of the [law school’s] Scholarship Repositories, and manages additions, edits for electronic publication, quality control, and metrics. The librarian develops services and policies to assist with library scholarly initiatives, such as the creation of online faculty profiles and best practices guidance for copyright issues. The librarian will also teach courses and workshops as assigned, including participating in the library’s Legal Research curriculum (teaching a section of the 1L Introduction to Legal Research and upper-level Advanced Legal Research courses as assigned). He or she will participate in the library’s faculty liaison program and reference desk rotations as assigned. Finally, the librarian will engage in law school, university, local, and national professional collaboration designed to stay current on developments and trends in scholarly publishing and library services.

Required Qualifications:

A JD degree from an ABA accredited law school AND an MLS/MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited library school are required. Candidates must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills in order to work effectively with faculty, staff, administrators, students, alumni, and others. The candidate will have an understanding of digital repositories and an aptitude for organization. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated ability to teach in the classroom, a strong desire and dedication to teaching, and a demonstrated interest and knowledge of trends in academic legal publishing. The successful candidate will also have a current knowledge of legal research tools and techniques, a desire to stay current with changes in legal research and legal publishing, and a high aptitude for service.
