Digital & Scholarly Initiatives Librarian

We have an exciting opportunity for a Digital & Scholarly Initiatives Librarian at the Law Library. This Librarian will be part of a highly engaged and collaborative team of librarians dedicated to providing excellent and innovative services to law faculty and students.

Under the general direction of the Head of Scholarly Publishing & Intellectual Access, the Digital & Scholarly Initiatives Librarian will have the following responsibilities: 

  • Monitor and evaluate technological innovations; assess and make recommendations regarding Library adoption and use of technology; and coordinate access to, implementation of, and staff education for electronic tools. 
  • Coordinate the Law School Faculty Publications project and website, including hiring, training and supervising student research assistants. 
  • Administer, coordinate, and manage work on the Law School Institutional Repository, as well as the Law School Research / Working Paper series. 
  • Maintain and troubleshoot a variety of library systems, software, and services (e.g., Microsoft Access, ILLiad, LibApps, Innovative Interfaces Library Management System, and scanning software). 
  • Participate in unit and Library-wide work, projects, and problem-solving, including as a member of committees and work groups, as assigned. 
  • Use strategic technical thinking to help implement new technologies and services or to improve those already in use. 
  • Work with Head of Reference & Research Services to design legal technology workshops for law students, and participate in teaching sessions. 
  • Participate in outreach efforts to law students, faculty, staff, and alumni. 
  • Fill in for other librarians and provide back-up supervision for unit functions during vacations and other absences, as needed. 
  • Participate in the evening and weekend rotation at the reference desk. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from an A.L.A. accredited school of information or library science. 
  • A strong service orientation. 
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and as part of a team. 
  • Ability to learn and understand complex Law Library practices and procedures. 
  • Creativity and adaptability in the face of multiple simultaneous demands. 
  • An active awareness of new technologies and the impact they have on a rapidly changing scholarly communication landscape. (NASIG Core Competency) 
  • Proven ability to assess and make judgments regarding the potential adoption and implementation of new technologies. 
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends at the reference desk on a rotating basis.
