Head of Library Systems and Metadata

Purpose of position: This position will be part of the library’s technical services staff and will administer and manage the library-specific information technology infrastructure for all law library operations, including the Sierra integrated library system, and provide leadership in the development, assessment, and implementation of practices and procedures related to resource description and classification.

Essential functions: Serve as system administrator for the ILS; oversee metadata personnel’s daily activities and workflow; develop, organize, and manage the library’s Springshare platform, wiki, and other internal web-based resources; Investigate and implement new technologies to improve internal processes and information sharing; train library staff in use of web-based services, content management systems, digital resources, and other new, innovative technologies.

Required qualifications: Master’s degree in Library or Information Science (MLS or equivalent) from an accredited program; 3-5 years’ experience managing an ILS; experience in one or more technical services department functions; experience in developing policies and procedures for managing information resources. Applicants must have a professional demeanor, strong interpersonal skills, and excellent oral and written communication skills. Applicants must have excellent organizational, time-management and analytical skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a team.

Preferred qualifications: JD from ABA-accredited law school, or degree or certification in information technologies, III Systems, or similar credential; experience working in a law library or with legal information resources.
