Scholarly Communications and Open Access Librarian

Reporting to the Associate Director for Scholarly Data and Innovation, the Scholarly Communications and Open Access Librarian will serve a critical role in supporting and enhancing the prolific scholarship of the Law School faculty. This position oversees digital publication of the intellectual output of the law school on multiple online platforms. The librarian will develop a communication and training plan to counsel and educate faculty and students on topics including: best practices in preparing and submitting scholarship for publication, the benefits of open access publishing, strategies for promoting and publicizing published works, and updating and curating online faculty profiles.

Job Description 

Oversee and participate in posting of Law School Scholarship to online platforms, repositories, and faculty profiles  

  • Oversees and participates in the addition and maintenance of Law School scholarly works on the Law School Institutional Repository 
  • Oversees and participates in the addition and maintenance of Law School faculty working papers on SSRN 
  • Works with faculty to create, update and curate online profiles, including BePress’ Expert Gallery, HeinOnline, Google Scholar, ORCID, and SSRN 
  • Manages staff and student workers in the posting of Law School scholarship; monitors and adjusts publication workflows
  • Communicate with the Law School Community about publication process and best practices  
  • Develops educational materials, presentations, and workshops on issues related to publication of works, including journal selection and submission, impact, publicity, copyright awareness, and open access 
  • Serves as a library liaison to the student-edited journals at Law School to consult and advise on best practices for digital publication 
  • Serves as an advocate in the Law School community for open access publishing
  • Research and Identify Technologies and Processes that will improve scholarly communications and impact
  • Coordinates with the Associate Director for Scholarly Data and Innovation on strategies for measuring and increasing scholarly impact through online presentation and publicity of faculty works on digital platforms 
  • Investigates tools and techniques for automating online publication of scholarly works 
  • Stays abreast of new platforms, technologies, methods, and trends for scholarly communication, both within the legal academy and in other disciplines

Qualifications: 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Master’s degree in library or information science from an ALA-accredited program 
  • 1 year experience working in a higher education setting 
  • Excellent communication skills 
  • Strong organizational skills 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school 
  • Experience working with publications and scholarly communications in a higher education setting 
  • Experience developing training sessions and creating informative documentation 
  • Interest and/or experience in educating and advocating for open access publishing 
  • Experience managing staff and/or student workers 
  • Experience and/or training in data collection, analysis, and visualization
