Library Technology Specialist

Can be located in Pittsburgh (PA), Canonsburg (PA), Columbus (OH), Morgantown (WV), or Bridgeport (WV).

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Library Technology Specialist has primary responsibility for providing ongoing technical support of information systems and processes critical to the services and operations of the library. The incumbent will help manage passwords, logins, contracts, conduct overflow research etc.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

REPORTS TO: Research Services Manager
SUPERVISES: No supervisory responsibilities.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • *Monitor, analyze and report on legal research usage and cost allocation
  • *Provide training to attorneys and support staff on purchasing out-of-plan content and cost-effective research methodologies
  • *Identify overhead costs that should be allocated to a client
  • *Identify research tools that are being underutilized and make recommendations to the Director of Knowledge, Research, and Information Services on tools that should be eliminated.
  • Assists the Director of Knowledge, Research, and Information Services with vendor relations,collection development, cataloguing, and processing materials.
  • *Provide daily password management and online resource troubleshooting addressing technicaldifficulties that arise in our online tools.
  • Support and update various SharePoint sites across the firm as instructed by the Director of Knowledge, Research, and Information Services
  • Work collaboratively with the Manager of Research Services to build and maintain an appropriate library print and digital collection

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technology or related field required
  • Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited graduate program is preferred

WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar role at a law firm or other professional services environment with MLIS; 5 years of experience without MLIS
  • Knowledge of research resources commonly used in large law firms (i.e. Westlaw, Practical Law,BNA, RIA, Thomson MyAccount, Law360, PACER, SharePoint, Teams, Project, Planner, PowerApps, and list creation)

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • PHYSICAL EFFORT: Ability to operate a variety of standard office equipment including a computer, copy and facsimile machines.
  • WORK ENVIRONMENT: Must be able to perform the duties of the position with time constraints, interruptions, and busy attorneys and staff and be able to treat all matters in a discrete and confidential manner. “Essential functions” are primarily position duties that incumbents must be able to perform unassisted or with some reasonable accommodation made by the employer. Position may require some travel, as requested by the Director of Knowledge, Research, and Information Services, to offsite libraries. Must possess a valid driver’s license. On occasion must be able to work more than 40 hours per week.

JOB STATUS:

Full time 37.5 hours per week. Non-exempt position
