Continuing Resources & Acquisitions Librarian

 Under the general supervision of the Associate Director of Collections & Access Services (AC), the Continuing Resources & Acquisition Librarian is responsible for overseeing acquisitions/serials and cataloging units. The Librarian will lead a staff consisting of an administrator and several staff members.

Duties & Responsibilities

Acquisitions

  • Supervises daily operations of the acquisitions/serials unit.
  • Develops new workflows, procedures and initiatives and trains staff members in them.
  • Oversees the order and receiving of material in all formats. Oversees invoicing and claiming.
  • Works closely with University procurement systems to ensure accurate and timely payment of Library invoices. Oversees timely submissions of invoices. Supervises library staff in tracking or confirming vendor payments when appropriate.
  • Ensures vendor information is properly maintained and up to date in the University Procurement system.
  • Resolves issues relating to acquisitions and inventory management including but not limited to issues with orders, receipts, billing, processing, claims, records, cancelled orders, and system functionalities.

Inventory Maintenance

  • Performs maintenance on modules within the library’s ILS.
  • Provides or directs record maintenance for new or cancelled materials within the ILS.
  • Coordinates with other library members regarding the addition of vendor supplied records into the ILS and of the resource onto the ez-proxy server.
  • Ensures the adequate preservation of department records, including vendor contracts and usage statistics for e-resources.
  • Leads periodic collection evaluation and weeding projects.
  • Oversees the processing and management of physical collections (e.g., processing, weeding, binding)

Collection Development

  • Implements collection decisions by communicating with vendors regarding purchases, renewals, and cancelled subscriptions.
  • Annually pulls print standing orders lists from vendors.
  • Tracks renewals for e-resources, reaches out to vendors and ensures communication of renewal decisions, as well as timely receipt of invoices.
  • Under direction of the ADC, negotiates pricing and license terms for e-resources.
  • Assists in development of annual collections budget by advising ADC on fund allocation.
  • Monitors expenditures, encumbrances and regularly compiles reports detailing acquisition spending by category.
  • Coordinates with content selectors so that Library’s acquisitions conform with budgetary projections.
  • Directs the gathering of and presentation of print standing order lists and usage statistics to subject selectors.
  • Oversees the analysis, acceptance, receipt, donor agreement, item processing and donor acknowledgement of items offered to the library.
  • Collects collection usage statistics.
  • Analyzes microfiche collection for retention and possible digitization decisions.

Faculty Library, Rare Book Room & Government Documents

  • Develops, in consultation with other library management and with the input of faculty, a long-term plan for faculty library and the rare book room.
  • Supervise our government documents program and assesses continued participation in the Federal Depository Library Program.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent;
  • At least 3 years or relevant professional experience.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of integrated library systems as used by acquisitions and collection management personnel, including statistical and fund maintenance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of systems, including iBuy.
  • Experience with Sierra or other ILS system.
  • Experience with Ex Libris Link 360 platform.

Classification

This is a non-tenure track faculty (Assistant Librarian of Practice) position, and after the first year is eligible for multi-year contracts.
