Systems/Digital Initiatives Librarian

The Systems & Digital Initiatives Librarian will be a member of the Technology & Digital Initiatives team. The librarian will work with the team to administer the library’s systems and webpages, prepare reports and assessments, and work on special technology projects to support innovative initiatives taking place at the School of Law.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Administers the Law Library’s integrated library system (ILS), including the planning and evaluation of system upgrades and migrations.
  • Trains librarians and staff on the ILS.
  • Leads the team’s administration of other key library software including ILLiad, LibraryH3lp and SpringShare suite; and hardware such as the Bookeye scanner.
  • Edits webpages of library related systems. Maintains the library’s website and collaborates with library staff to ensure that content on the library web pages is up to date.
  • Assists in creating content for and updating library web pages and research guides.
  • Coordinating with vendors who provide offsite hosting services to ensure systems are running smoothly and that upgrades are done in a timely manner.
  • Designs and conducts user-based assessments of library e-resources and systems.
  • Generates reports, statistics, and data from the ILS for other library departments. Prepares assessments, analyses, and documentation as needed and upon request.
  • Collects data from the integrated library system in response to requests, including for external organizations, including AllStar and U.S. News. Inputs data as requested onto various platforms.
  • Serves as a liaison to the Law School’s Information Technology Department
  • Identifies materials that are candidates for digitization. Works with the digital initiatives team to implement in-house digitization projects and develop metadata strategies for digitized materials.
  • Keeps up with and evaluates new library technologies. Researches and implements new tools to improve the library’s operations.
  • Works collaboratively with others on systems-related, technology-related, and digitally based services and projects.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent;
  • High level of proficiency with library related information technology applications
  • A degree in computer science or a related field strongly preferred.

Technical Qualifications:

  • Experience with Sierra or other library management systems and electronic resources management tools.
  • Awareness of technology trends in areas of responsibility.
  • Experience with HTML, CSS and JavaScript
  • Familiarity with at least one programming/ markup language, such as XML, Perl, PHP, Python, or SQL.
  • Familiarity with building, maintaining, and/or troubleshooting APIs.

Classification

This is a non-tenure track faculty (Assistant Librarian of Practice) position, and after the first year is eligible for multi-year contracts.
